The Last Keeper is a limited-edition 10-year-old single malt created by Wolfburn Distillery in tribute to Scotland’s rural keepers—and the families confronting the isolation, pressure and loss that can accompany rural life.
The Story
The Last Keeper began as a documentary about the people who care for Scotland’s wildlife, working landscapes and rural communities. It became something deeper: a story about what happens when those people are misunderstood, displaced or left to carry the pressures of rural life alone.
Wolfburn Distillery created only 500 bottles of The Last Keeper 10-Year-Old Single Malt to honor the keepers—past, present and future—and to support Shepherds of Wildlife Society in the United States and the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust in the United Kingdom.
A Whisky Created to Carry the Story
Produced by Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso, one of the northernmost distilleries on the Scottish mainland, The Last Keeper is a limited release of only 500 bottles.
The whisky was matured for 10 years in hand-selected second-fill Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and presented at its natural colour.
I dedicated my film The Last Keeper to the rural families who have endured the devastating loss of someone they love to suicide. Their pain is part of this story, and it cannot be ignored. If we claim to care about wildlife and wild places, we must also care about the people who carry the responsibility of looking after them.”
